After parking the car, just as the tiny ferry to Place was leaving, our daughter bagged the last spot. Landing further round than expected we walked though the Place estate, the house and church.
Meandering through meadows, across farmland around the bay and headland, magnificent views greeted us; sunshine, blue skies, marvellous! Time for shorts.
Feeling cooler, buoyed by easier walking, and chatter amongst ourselves and with fellow walkers (and dog walkers) we approached Portscatho. The pretty village had both facilities and coffee over looking the beach, where we joined the nation watching the jubilee balcony appearance and flyover! Joys of modern technology. We also met a fellow path walker and his dog again; a lovely treat.
Fortified we meandered through more pretty coves, flowery meadows and open headlands to Carne beach. I couldn’t resist a paddle! We reminisced on body boarding in wetsuits in the rain with friends when the children were young. Technology failed.
Boots donned, devices reset, we headed round the more rugged Roseland peninsular down to Portloe. Definitely a day of two halves; the walking meandered, twisting, plummeting up and down, across open fields, through woods, then clinging to the cliff side on narrow less walked paths; the nettle waltz! I loved hearing the sounds of the sea, gulls and birds all day.
We passed the beacons (bonfire piles) at Carne beach and Portloe before heading for an early dinner. Well not quite so early as the pub we’re so successful they’d had to delay service whilst stocks were replenished!
We then walked up the hill footpath to be greeted by the bnb hosts before they headed off for beacon lighting and we for a welcome shower.
