You can’t have anything on your own! My husband has hurt his ankle exactly as I did at the start of the trip! Expecting to be drenched, having the luxury of two nights in one place, and the sore ankle we left one pack behind. It was so, so much easier walking, almost made me wish we had used luggage transfers!
We did get wet, and blown about but not all day! Lady Luck was with us.
After a drizzly breakfast we called my friend to say we were leaving and headed off to meet her. She chased the rain away as we chatted and enjoyed the grey, subdued, but no less spectacular views. She walked stretches with us then peeled off to move her car, meeting us again further on. Buffeted we rounded headlands, walked down and up steep paths with steps thankfully through farmland hugging the coast and across craggy secluded bays. Some welcome road walking too where land slip close to properties required diversion.
We ate lunch in quaint Charlestown in a warm pub overlooking the harbour where more Poldark filming took place - we think we remember the episode!
Braving walking across a disputed stretch of the cliff path we chatted to a lovely couple we’d met over the last few days before bumping into our friend again. I wish to have their energy and vigour!
The path follows the China clay trail at Par; the St Austell slag heap visible on the horizon we passed the old clay works. It was a joy to watch Patch, my friend’s dog exitedly run as we crossed Par beach; reminded me of our late mad spaniel!
Back at the car, she kindly dropped us back in a Mevagissey, where I went in search of a takeaway whilst my husband watched England‘s demise against Hungary; dubious penalties apparently!
Official SW Coast path: 12miles
