Intrepid brooding skies hovered as we excitedly strolled to the end of Weymouth beach promenade to meet our children. Hugs and coffee later we all headed up for the first of the steep ascents on the roller coaster walk to Lulworth cove, looking forward to the spectacular views of the Jurassic white limestone cliffs.
Passing through Osminton Mills, deciding it was too early for lunch, avoiding being herded along with the coastering PGL group we saw brooding Bowleaze bay the site of John Constables famous painting; we definitely had the threatening skies.
Lunch alongside half the OTC trainees at Ringstead bay over we headed over the white Nothe cliffs around St Oswalds bay. So much fun to have the children walk with us, the miles slipped by as we caught up. I don’t remember the paths being so worn or steep, but the breathtaking views of Dursle door and this famous most photographed section of the Jurassic coast never fail to please; they even brought the sunshine!
Heading down to Lulworth cove we managed a sunny ice cream (sadly no cream tea as the clotted cream was still frozen!) before visiting the cove to check out the all important flag; red - the range is firing. The clouds back, the lucky few headed inside for coffee whilst the kids reshuffled the cars.
After checking in at the YHA we had a wonderful family meal at the pub; so lucky to avoid the well behaved rain again!
