We re-joined the path, at the military marine base, following the Tarka Trail along the old railway line. Excitement at easy walking along a flat tarmac wide path with terrific views of the Taw estuary in the sunshine, soon waned after stepping aside for cyclists every 30seconds!
After 5 miles we crossed the old historic long bridge in Barnstable following the path again down the opposite side to Fremington Quay. Of course, I stopped for takeaway cream tea in the old station building with windy views of the nature reserve and biosphere.
Finally we left the tarmac trudge for a meander across the dunes to Instow passing cricket at the beach!
We strolled to the pub later, no views only eerie mist! Hard to believe we’d basked in the sunshine in the BnB garden earlier. Cream tea no 4. Rating 8.5 Fremington Station (Enormous fresh scones, lots of cream, runny jam, great value)
Official SW Coast path: 13miles
Official running total: 75miles
